The charlotte Observer that serves Charlotte and the surrounding counties of Iredell, Cabarrus, Union, Lancaster, York, Gaston, and Lincoln, is the largest newspaper in NC and SC. Founded in 1869, the paper employs more than 1200 employees, primarily in their large downtown offices. Each day, it publishes more than 215,000 newspapers and offers different local sections for specific neighborhoods within Mecklenburg County.
The Charlotte Observer also operates papers in Hickory, Gastonia, concord, Monroe, Statesville and Rock Hill. It has offices in the state capitals of NC and SC in Raleigh and Columbia. A little known fact is that it also has its own office in Washington, DC.
