Orphans Worldwide Find Loving Homes From Proceeds of Free Gas for 10-Years Raffle
Newbury Park, CA (PRWEB) May 8, 2008 -- The orphan crisis (http://www.theorphanfoundation.org/about_the_children.htm) has reached epic proportions with more than 163 million orphans and displaced children around the world. That population makes them the 7th largest nation on the planet.
The Orphan Foundation announces its Free Gas for 10-Years raffle to benefit the foundation's work to find loving homes for the millions of orphans and displaced children worldwide, while providing relief from the soaring cost of gas for one lucky driver. With US gas prices rapidly climbing to an average of $4 or more per gallon during 2008, a $10 raffle ticket will help the winning driver save more than $50,000 over the next ten years.
'So many orphans and displaced children live a life of extreme hardship and fear,' said Joe DiDonato, co-founder of The Orphan Foundation. He went on to say that, 'In Eastern Europe, less than fifty percent of the orphans will see their 20th birthdays. Of the orphans who reach their 20th birthdays, half will turn to crime, drugs and prostitution to survive. In other parts of the world, children are being used to fight wars or commit terrorist actions.'
The Orphan Foundation's programs include providing financial support to adopting families, medical interventions for children waiting for adoption, and transition support for children leaving institutions or foster homes at 17 or 18 years of age who have no family to help them.
The cost of adoption presents a huge barrier to solving the orphan crisis. Average adoption costs have reached nearly $20,000 for a domestic adoption, and range from $25,000 to $40,000 for an international adoption.
'Adoption should be free to any loving family who will open their home to these beautiful children,' said Dr. Tatiana DiDonato, co-founder of The Orphan Foundation. "The cost of adoption has skyrocketed out of the reach of most families. Our foundation's raffle will help provide the badly needed funds to move one step closer to making 'free adoption' a reality."
Tickets for The Orphan Foundation's Free Gas for 10-Years raffle cost $10 for one ticket, $50 for six, and $100 for 12. Ticket sales will be limited to 64,500, and the winner will be announced on August 31, 2008.
The calculated annual payouts are based on a maximum of 15,000 driven miles per year, a minimum fuel economy of 18 miles per US gallon, and a yearly maximum gas price that will range from $4.00 to $9.43 per US gallon over the next 10 Years. Raffle rules and entry forms (http://www.theorphanfoundation.org/resources/FreeGasEntryForm.pdf) are available on the foundation's website at www.TheOrphanFoundation.org (http://www.TheOrphanFoundation.org).
Tickets for The Orphan Foundation's Free Gas for 10 Years raffle can be purchased by calling The Orphan Foundation at (877) 4-1-ORPHAN (877-416-7742) between the hours of 6:00 AM to 9:00 PM PDT, Monday through Friday, and on weekends between 6:00 AM and 6:00 PM PDT.
